Narrative e-Writing Intervention (NeW-I)

Narrative e-Writing Intervention (NeW-I) - Supporting the Psycho-Socio-Spiritual Needs of Parent-Caregivers of Children with Chronic Life-Threatening Illness

Narrative e-Writing Intervention (NeW-I) is a novel psycho-socio-spiritual intervention that aims to bridge gaps in paediatric palliative care by providing anticipatory grief support to parent-caregivers who are looking after their child with a chronic life-threatening illness.

This is done via a therapist-facilitated smartphone app that focuses on strengths and meaning derived from parents’ caregiving journey. NeW-I is empirically informed by an international systematic review, an Asian qualitative inquiry on the lived experience of parental bereavement, and supported by anticipatory grief interventions literature, and was piloted in Singapore via an open-label 2-armed Randomised Controlled Trial.

In this webinar, Dr Andy Ho will present the theoretical underpinnings and applied practice of NeW-I, highlighting its clinical efficacy in reducing parent-caregivers’ burden while enhancing their perceived social support, spiritual wellbeing, sense of meaning, peace, hope and quality of life in the midst of grief adversity.

Andy will also share results from an acceptability and feasibility study on the implementation science of this novel intervention. He will discuss the study’s findings in the light of existing e-health literature, with practical recommendations for enhancing parental bereavement support services in contemporary societies.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this webinar, participants will:

  3. understand the theoretical foundation of a novel Narrative e-Writing Intervention for supporting parent-caregivers of children with chronic life-threatening illness
  4. be able to describe the implementation science of NeW-I in relations to intervention acceptability and feasibility
  5. be equipped to consider how similar e-counselling approaches can be applied to support parent-caregivers of children with chronic life-threatening illness.
